Kung Fu-style fighting game

Sifu is a role-playing game created by Sloclap. It is a true-to-combat Kung Fu-style game. Here, you will play as a young martial arts student seeking revenge against five assassins who murdered his family. You will have to beat up these bosses—and their henchmen—to carry out your revenge. However, unlike other fighting games where the hero seems immortal, you can die in this game. You can come back to life, though, but there's a catch. Your character will grow old each time.

What is Sifu?

Sifu is a follow-up to Sloclap's multiplayer fighting online game, Absolver. In some ways, the game looks similar to the latter. However, whereas the latter was a PVP game, Sifu is one versus many. The game revolves around a Kung-Fu student on a mission to avenge the death of his family. There will be lots of fighting involved here, as you will be beating up goons on your way to the assassin's hideout. There are five assassins that act as bosses, so there will be lots of enemies to beat up.

The game is heavily inspired by Kung-Fu movies, especially Jackie Chan's. You’d be able to use your environment to your advantage. You can climb on ledges, throw objects, and even pick-up makeshift weapons. Sifu focuses on the Pak Mei Kung- Fu style, and you will see some authentic movements in the game.

The combat is difficult and enemies can beat you up. However, you hold a magic pendant that revives you upon death. The unique twist is that you will age significantly every time. As you come back older, you will become more experienced and wiser—which is generally what Sifus in martial arts are.

Unlike Absolver, Sifu is entirely single-player. The game is also a linear adventure. Your only mission is to beat up the five assassins and their henchmen. Moreover, there will be no move set customization system. You cannot create combos or choose from various martial art styles. The game uses the Pak Mei Kung-Fu style only. However, the character moves will evolve as he becomes the master.

New Arenas Expansion and Platform Release

Sloclap, the developer of Sifu, has recently announced an exciting Arenas expansion for the game, set to launch alongside its release on Steam and Xbox platforms next week. Originally available only on the Epic Games Store, PS4, and PS5, Sifu will now be accessible to a wider audience as it debuts on Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on March 28.

Five Game Modes in the Arenas Expansion

The free Arenas expansion will introduce five new game modes to Sifu, adding variety and challenges for players. The Future Game Spring Showcase 2023 showcased a brand-new trailer, giving players a first glimpse at the Arenas and the fresh experiences they can anticipate. Along with the new game modes, players can also look forward to nine arenas and 45 additional challenges.

A Deep Dive into the New Game Modes

The Arenas expansion is expected to provide approximately 10 hours of extra content, featuring engaging game modes such as Survival, Performance, Time Attack, Capture, and Manhunt. In Survival mode, players will face their limits as they battle relentless enemies. Performance mode, on the other hand, will require players to strive for perfection. Time Attack mode challenges players to race against the clock while fighting through a path filled with adversaries. Capture mode involves taking control of a marked area and defending it from waves of enemies, while Manhunt mode tasks players with eliminating a specific target protected by a group of guards.

Become a Kung-Fu master

All in all, Sifu is a game that you can play if you are into Chinese martial arts. The game is a stylish brawler that accurately depicts the natural fluid action of old Kung-Fu movies. It comes with excellent combat that captures the values and movements of an authentic Kung-Fu discipline. While it does not have a multiplayer option, this Kung-Fu game will give you a true martial arts experience.
